Enter and View - Sulis ward, St Martin’s Hospital
We visited the Sulis ward at St Martin’s Hospital in Bath on 19th February 2025. Sulis ward is managed by HCRG, alongside John Stacey ward at Paulton Memorial Hospital.
Our Enter and View visits are a way that we can gather information about services and collect views of service users, their carers, staff and relatives.
Following on from our visit we have made some recommendations to the service provider based on the feedback we have received and what we observed.

Following on from our visit we have made some recommendations to the service provider based on the feedback we have received and what we observed.

Our recommendations included improvements in the following areas:
-
Emotional support for patients experiencing low mood, and especially those without regular visits
-
Access to day clothes for those without visitor support and hairdresser visits
-
Opportunities for accessing TV/radio to provide interest and activity during the day
-
Meal options, choices and support
-
Patient information displays
-
Boosting staffing levels and potential for support from volunteers
-
Physical facilities including external signage, internal storage and external garden space for the ward.
“The weekends are a desert in terms of staff being available for physio or other activities”
“The physio is great. He doesn’t give you any ‘flannel’ if you’re not doing something right he’ll tell you. The straight talking is really helpful”
“I wish someone could help me to find a way through how I’m feeling. I ... never thought I would be in this situation where I can’t help myself, but now I am really lost”
