Residents and community partners are being asked for their views on making the most of digital technology to help transform adult social care for people across Bath & North East Somerset.

Bath & North East Somerset Council and Healthwatch have launched the survey to hear residents' ideas and views on digital and technology-enabled care (TEC) both to support staff giving care in and to give residents more control over the care they receive.

The survey will help the council understand how digital and tech are currently used by residents in their homes and what opportunities and drawbacks these solutions present. This could be looking at devices such as pendant alarms and falls detectors and everyday devices such as Alexa’s and smart phones.

The survey also asks residents if they are willing to be contacted by the council in the future so it can continue to gather information on people’s experiences, and check that Adult Social Care support is meeting the needs of residents.

The survey can be found online here and is available in a number of formats on request from Healthwatch. The survey closes on Friday 31st October 2025.

Councillor Alison Born, cabinet member for Adult Services, said:

"We want to offer the best support to our residents. New technology needn’t be daunting and can have many benefits.  This survey looks at the ways in which digital innovation can support better care and help people lead more independent and healthier lives. We are keen to hear from our communities and I’d encourage people to take part and share their experiences. Healthwatch will be directly working with community groups to ensure those who aren’t online can have their say."

Kevin Peltonen-Messenger, Chief Executive Officer of TCF (host provider of Healthwatch B&NES), said:

"Bath & North East Somerset Council has a strong track record of listening to and working alongside its communities and, as the provider of Healthwatch Bath and North East Somerset, we are proud to be supporting this initiative. This new Digital and Technology Strategy builds on an approach of coproduction, ensuring residents remain at the centre of innovation.

By combining the council’s trusted approach with new opportunities that technology brings, we can begin to understand what more efficient care might look like without losing sight of the compassion that still needs to be core to this area of work."
