All children across England began a welcome return to school this week, Monday 8th March. To support the student's return, schools have put various additional safety measures in place, from bi-weekly lateral flow testing for secondary students and the wearing of masks in class.

However, testing is not limited to secondary school students. If you are a parent of a school-age child or a school teacher you too are entitled to twice weekly tests which can be ordered via

The service is free, and tests can be ordered in at least one of your household, childcare bubble, or support bubble is:

  • is a school or college pupil
  • works in a school or college (this includes temporary workers or volunteers)

Note - Rapid lateral flow tests help to find cases in people who may have no symptoms but are still infectious and can give the virus to others.

Do not use this service if you have symptoms

Do not go to a test site if you’ve been told to self-isolate.

You should not go to a test site if you have any of these symptoms:

  • a high temperature
  • a new continuous cough
  • a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste

Order a test for people with symptoms online or call 119.

Additionally, to help minimise the risk of infection secondary school students are being asked to wear masks in class, and where possible parents/carers to wear masks at school drop off and pick up.

Furthermore, the UK Government is also asking that adults continue to keep social contacts to a minimum and not use childcare bubbles for social purposes.

Those living alone are able to form a support bubble with one other household. Also, those with children under 14 can form a childcare bubble with friends or family from one other household. For more information on bubbles, go to
