NHS Long Term Plan
The Government is investing an extra £20bn a year in the NHS until 2023. The NHS has produced a Long Term Plan, setting out all the things it wants health services to do better for people across the country.
For these plans to work, the NHS needs to shape local plans based on local needs. We asked people #WhatWouldYouDo to improve local services in Bath and North East Somerset, Swindon and Wiltshire.
During March and April this year we spoke to people in Bath and North East Somerset, Swindon and Wiltshire to get their views on the changes they would like to see to local services.
Key findings
We heard from over 600 people about the changes they would like to see. These include:
- 93% of respondents said that having the knowledge to help prevent ill health was important to them and wanted more information on leading a healthier lifestyle
- People with long-term conditions told us about frequent misdiagnoses and having to wait a long time to get accurate diagnoses
- People spoke about the importance of technology in making healthcare provision more efficient
It was wonderful to listen to so many people keen to make a difference in our local NHS
Our recommendations
As a result, we have made the following recommendations to services:
- Provide more public health information on healthy eating and exercise
- A review of service provision for long-term conditions such as autism should be carried out to ensure patients are able to access services and interventions as quickly as possible
- Prioritising the use of technology without excluding those that are not online
