Age UK to celebrate delivery of 12,000 hot meals to the elderly through new social enterprise

In March this year, Age UK launched a pre-planned start-up social enterprise called Meals + with just a single customer, oven, freezer, and delivery vehicle. This week they will deliver their 12,000th hot meal.

The service called Meals+ is a modern take on the old classic ‘meals on wheels’ service and will make its 12,000th face-to-face contact with an older person when it makes its landmark delivery this week.

Since the service's launch in March, Meals + has expanded across Swindon, Marlborough, Chippenham, Devizes, Trowbridge, Warminster, Salisbury, and Bath; recruiting a team of 20, investing in more equipment and a fleet of delivery vehicles.

Speaking of their success, the charity said,

"We are showing no signs of slowing down and would like to take this opportunity to thank all our customers, team, our benevolent investors, and supply chain partners for all their support and contribution to Meals + growth."
